~~~ Reading Offline Web Pages ~~~
When you right-click a Favorite and choose Make available offline,
Internet Explorer (IE) simply ensures that the specified page and
all of its supporting items, such as images, are present
in the cache.
You can choose to include linked pages to a specified depth.
The pages are stored unmodified, and because all their content
is cached, you can view them without connecting to the Internet.
It's almost impossible, however, to separate one particular
off-line Web page's elements from the rest of the cache
for archival purposes.
If you have Front Page you can import the web site
which will save everything but specifically protected files. Other
website creation programs will allow you to import the site's
information to your own computer.
The Save as... function on IE's File menu will save a single
Web page with all of its content, but won't include linked pages.
To archive a site with links, you'll need a utility called a site
ripper, which modifies the saved Web page so its links point
to local files. SiteSnagger is one such ripper, and you'll find many
more on your favorite download site.
